In this very technical paper the authors construct certain highest weight modules over the extended affine Lie algebra \(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}_2(\mathbb{C}_q)}\) and study their unitarizability. The main idea the authors use is the idea of the free field construction due to \textit{M. Wakimoto} [see Commun. Math. Phys. 104, 605--609 (1986; Zbl 0587.17009)]. The class of representations the authors obtain depends on an infinite family of elements of SL\(_2(\mathbb{C})\) and one complex parameter. All representations the authors construct turn out to be endowed with a contravariant Hermitian form. A sufficient and necessary condition for this form to be positive definite is given.
