The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually. This book is aimed at practitioners. First, the basic principles of Generic Model Control (GMC) are introduced. This theory was developed in the eighties and its basic concept is to find values of the manipulated inputs that force the system to follow a desired reference behavior. The theory is explained in a very tutorial way. Then, a series of case studies describing the application of GMC to a certain number of processes is described. A wide range of applications is covered and the processes chosen exhibit a variety of characteristics that make process control hard, e.g. wastewater pH control, distillation control, automatic moisture control. Implementation issues are also illustrated. The examples presented demonstrate the applicability of the theory and show that a variety of different control problems can be solved using the same control approach.
