An elliptic curve \(E:y^ 2 = x^ 3 + a_ 2x^ 2 + a_ 4x\) over an algebraic number field \(F\) is called \((\ell,2)\)-deficient, if \(a^ 2_ 2 - 4a_ 4\) is the square of an integral divisor of \(F\) and, for a prime \(\ell \geq 2\), \(a_ 4\) is the \(\ell\)-th power of an integral divisor of \(F\). The curve \(E\) is called simple if \(\min \{v_{\mathfrak P} (a_ 2), {1 \over 2} v_{\mathfrak P} (a_ 4)\} = 0\) for all nonarchimedean prime divisors \({\mathfrak P}\) of \(F\), where \(v_{\mathfrak P}\) is the normalized additive valuation belonging to \({\mathfrak P}\). The torsion of simple \((\ell,2)\)-deficient elliptic curves is shown to be bounded.
