A full subcategory \(\mathcal C\) of the category \(\mathcal M\), which contains the finitely generated projective modules and is closed under isomorphisms, extensions and kernels of epimorphisms is said to be a resolving subcategory. Let \(\mathcal A\) be an additive category and \(\mathcal D\) a full subcategory of \(\mathcal A\). We say that \(\mathcal D\) is contravariantly finite in \(\mathcal A\) if for each \(X\) in \(\mathcal A\) the restriction of the functor \(\text{Hom}(-, X)\) to \(\mathcal D\) is finitely generated over \(\mathcal D\). In the paper some relations between contravariantly finite, resolving subcategories and torsion theories, including hereditary, in the sense of Dickson are investigated.
