Adaptive fuzzy theory is employed to propose the control law and \(H_{\infty}\) tracking performance for a chaotic system, including the measured states, unknown nonlinear functions and exogenous disturbances. The presented algorithm is used to design a controller with a higher degree of uncertainties such as completely unknown functions rather than only unknown parameters. At the same time, the adaptive laws of adjustable parameters of the fuzzy logic system are obtained. All the unknown nonlinear functions are estimated by dynamic fuzzy approximators so that the adaptive fuzzy control approach can be employed for chaotic systems. Moreover, an \(H_{\infty}\) control method is applied to attenuate the effect of the modeling errors and disturbances in tracking control. This paper is briefly outlined as follows: Section 2 presents the chaotic system described by fuzzy models. In Section 3, the design approach for the chaotic system is proposed. The publication ends with an example.
