Let \(({\mathfrak G},(.|.)_{\mathfrak G})\), \(({\mathfrak H},(.|.)_{\mathfrak H})\) be Hilbert spaces with inner products indicated, let \((\Lambda, E)\), \((M,F)\) be spectral measure spaces in the respective Hilbert spaces with scalar measures \(\rho\) on \(\Lambda\) and \(\tau\) on \(M\), whose types coincide with the types of the spectral measures \(E\), \(F\), and let \({\mathfrak S}_2={\mathfrak S}_2({\mathfrak G},{\mathfrak H})\) be the Hilbert-Schmidt class of bounded linear operators from \({\mathfrak G}\) onto \({\mathfrak H}\), with scalar product \(\langle{\mathbf T},{\mathbf S}\rangle= \text{tr}({\mathbf T}{\mathbf S}^*)= \text{tr}({\mathbf S}^*{\mathbf T})\). If the operators \({\mathcal E}(\delta)\), \(\delta\subset\Lambda\), \({\mathcal F}(\vartheta)\), \(\vartheta\subset M\), are defined as left and right multiplications by \(E(\delta)\) and \(F(\vartheta)\), and if \({\mathcal G}(\delta \times\vartheta){\mathbf T}= {\mathcal E}(\delta){\mathcal F}(\vartheta){\mathbf T}= E(\delta){\mathbf T}F(\vartheta)\), \({\mathbf T}\in{\mathfrak S}_2\), then \({\mathcal G}\) estends to a spectral measure in \({\mathfrak S}_2\). The `transformer' \({\mathcal J}_\phi\) is defined on \({\mathfrak S}_2\) in terms of the symbol \(\phi\) on \(\Lambda \times M\) by \({\mathcal J}_\phi {\mathbf T}= \int_{\Lambda \times M}\phi(\lambda, \mu)\,d({\mathcal G}(\lambda, \mu))\,{\mathbf T})\). If \({\mathcal B}={\mathcal B}({\mathfrak G},{\mathfrak H})\) denotes the space of bounded linear operators from \({\mathfrak G}\) onto \({\mathfrak H}\), let \({\mathcal M}={\mathcal M}_{\mathcal B}\) denote the space \(\{\phi\) on \(\Lambda \times M:{\mathcal J}_\phi\) is bounded on \({\mathcal B}\}\) with the norm \(\|\phi\|_{\mathcal M}= \|{\mathcal J}_\phi\|_{{\mathcal B}\to{\mathcal B}}\). In the main general theorem of this paper, statements indicate that if \(\phi\) is represented by \[ \phi(\lambda,\mu)= \int_{\mathcal T} \alpha(\lambda, t)\,\beta(\mu, t)\,d\eta(t), \] where \(({\mathcal T},\eta)\) is an auxiliary measure space, then \[ {\mathcal J}_\phi{\mathbf T}= \int_\Lambda \int_M \int_{\mathbf T} \alpha(\lambda, t)\,b(\mu, t)\,d\eta(t)\,dE(\lambda){\mathbf T}dF(\mu), \] and estimates are derived for the norm \(\|\phi\|_{\mathcal M}\). Initial statements of the paper relate to the spaces \({\mathfrak G}= L^2(\Lambda,\rho)\), \({\mathfrak H}= L^2(M,\tau)\). Further results of the paper involve pseudo-differential operators, representations involving symbols of the form \(\phi(l,m)= (h(l)- h(m))/(l-m)\), and representations for operators of the form \({\mathbf T} h({\mathbf B})- h({\mathbf A}){\mathbf T}\), where \({\mathbf A}\), \({\mathbf B}\) are selfadjoint operators.
