After a short review of mostly author's results on topics as immune networks, complex networks, multitasking associative networks, hierarchical networks, spin-glass models, mean-field models, a.o., one starts with the presentation of mean-field processing, serial and parallel processors and the description of a neural network on a hierarchical topology. In order to investigate the properties and performance of hierarchical retrieval, one refers to achievements from the part of statistical mechanics, from signal-to-noise techniques and numerical simulations. Conclusions and outlooks end the article.
