Let \(X\) be a simply connected Riemannian manifold. Under the assumption that \(X\) is (metrically) complete and with pinched negative curvature, the authors of the paper under review show that: there are no super-exponentially decaying eigenfunctions of the positive Laplacian \(\Delta\) on \(X\). Moreover, they show that this result remains valid if one replaces \(\Delta\) by any second order differential operator acting on sections (of a bounded vector bundle over \(X\)) with (scalar) principal symbol equal to that of \(\Delta\).
