The main result of this paper is a function field analogue of work of \textit{M. Roth} and the reviewer [Invent. Math. 200, No. 2, 513--583 (2015; Zbl 1337.14023)] that connects the Diophantine approximation of algebraic points on algebraic varieties with the Seshadri constant of the appropriate variety at the point being approximated. The main technical tool used is work of \textit{J. T. Y. Wang} [Math. Z. 246, No. 4, 811--844 (2004; Zbl 1051.11041)]. Note that the function field need not be of transcendence degree one, but can be of arbitrary finite degree. \par Specifically, if the dimension of the ambient algebraic variety is $n$, then the author proves that the approximation constant $\alpha$ at an algebraic point $x$ is bounded below by $\frac{n}{n+1}\epsilon$, where $\epsilon$ is the Seshadri constant at $x$. This is all done relative to an arbitrary choice of very ample divisor $L$.
