The author describes and analyses Dedekind's and Weber's editorial work which led to the edition of Riemann's ``Gesammelte Werke'' in 1876. Due to the close relationship to Riemann, Dedekind was given the responsibility of the edition of these collected works. Dedekind decided to include, in the edition, unpublished texts extracted from Riemann's Nachlass. After A. Clebsch's unexpected death in 1872, Dedekind won over H. Weber as a coeditor. The author describes the troubles that had to be overcome by both editors. Thus, their editorial work involved the tedious process of deciphering, clearing up, reconstructing and in some cases understanding Riemann's manuscripts beside the crucial step of selecting the manuscripts that they considered as interesting, scientifically sound and complete enough. This process is well documented in the correspondence between Dedekind and Weber as well as their preserved notes to Riemann's writings. The author shows by some examples that Dedekind's and Weber's editorial work became an important part of their mathematical practice during the years 1874--1876 and involved deep mathematical work.
