The authors consider the Cauchy problem for the following equation with a singular nonlinearity: \[ u_t=\Delta u-u^{-\nu}, \quad x\in \mathbb R^n,\;t>0,\;\nu>0, \] with \(n\geq 3\). They find conditions on the initial value such that the local solutions vanish in finite time. In addition they obtain optimal conditions for existence of global solutions and study the large time behavior of those global solutions. On the other hand, in the paper, the structure of positive radial solutions of the steady-state is studied and some interesting properties of the positive solutions are obtained. Moreover, the stability and weak asymptotic stability of the positive radial solutions of the steady-state are also discussed.
