Since their invention 25 years ago independently by both Auslander and Enochs, covariantly finite subcategories become a very important notion in the investigation of additive categories. The paper observes firstly in Proposition 4.1 a bijection between the classes of covariantly finite subcategories of an additive category \({\mathcal A}\) with cokernels and colocalizing subcategories of the category of coherent functors from \({\mathcal A}\) into the category of abelian groups, under orthogonality (i.e., annihilation) relations. In particular, four equivalent descriptions of covariantly finite subcategories of locally presentable additive categories are given in Theorem 2. Moreover, by extending the notion of definable subcategories of module categories to additive categories, various characterizations of definable subcategories of locally presentable additive categories are summarized in Theorem 3, i.e., in Corollary 5.8.
