A system consisting of several interconnected subsystems is considered and each subsystem is described by a linear differential equation with a small parameter in a part of the derivations. When this parameter becomes zero the order of every subsystem reduces and the system decomposes into independent subsystems. The following basic question is studied: how will the local adaptive controllers designed for the simplified model behave when they are applied to the full order system. Modified adaptive laws are proposed that improve the stability properties of the closed-loop system.
