    The authors consider the differential equation \((\varphi (u')') + f(t,u) = q(t)\), \(t \in (a,b)\), together with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. Their main result is an existence theorem stating that there is at least one solution provided that ``for large \(u\) the nonlinearity lies in a nonresonance interval'' for the associated nonlinear eigenvalue-like problem \((\varphi (u')') + \Lambda \varphi (u) =\), \(t \in (a,b)\), \(u(a) = u(b) = 0\).
