The authors prove an existence and uniqueness result for the Cauchy problem regarding a fractional differential equation involving a fractional derivative in the Caputo sense. This result is proved by analyzing the convergence of successive approximations in scales of Banach spaces. It extends previous results of the authors from the integer order case to the fractional order (non-integer order) case.
