An algebra of finite strict multiplicity is a unital strongly closed algebra \({\mathcal A}\) of bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space \(H\) such that \(H\) is a algebraically finitely generated \({\mathcal A}\)-module. One of the main results of the paper under review is that if \({\mathcal A}\) is an algebra of finite strict multiplicity and \({\mathcal L}\subseteq\text{Lat }{\mathcal A}\) is a subspace lattice (i.e., \(0,1\in{\mathcal L}\) and \({\mathcal L}\) is a strongly closed lattice of projections), then every nonzero element of \({\mathcal L}^{\bot}:=\{F\mid 1-F\in{\mathcal L}\}\) contains a nonzero minimal element of \({\mathcal L}^{\bot}\). As a consequence, if \({\mathcal A}\) is an operator algebra inheriting finite strict multiplicity by restriction to each of its invariant subspaces, then every ascending chain in \(\text{Lat }{\mathcal A}\) is stationary. The attainability problem as well as commutative subspace lattices within the framework of algebras inheriting (as above) finite strict multiplicity are considered in the final of the paper.
