The paper is concerned with Riemann-Liouville two-point boundary value problems with highest order derivative being fractional of order between 1 and 2. The problem is equivalently re-formulated as a pair of two weakly singular Volterra integral equations of second kind. Via this formulation, an existence and uniqueness result is proved, and bounds for the derivative of the solution are provided. Furthermore, two collocation methods for the numerical solution of the boundary value problem are proposed, and error estimates are derived. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate and to compare the two methods.
