The author derives the formula \[ r(fix)=\sum^{n}_{k=0}(-1)\quad k/(x-x_ k)f_ k/\sum^{n}_{k=0}(-1)\quad k/(x-x_ k) \] which guarantees a well-conditioned rational interpolation and r(fix) has any poles on the real line. A similar formula is presented for trigonometric interpolation. The accuracy of the approximation f(x)\(\approx r(fix)\) compares favorably with that of spline interpolants.
