Let \((X,\tau)\) be a topological space. A subset \(A\) of \(X\) is said to be \(b\)-open [\textit{D. Andrijević}, Mat. Vesn. 48, No. 1-2, 59-64 (1996; Zbl 0885.54002)] or sp-open [\textit{J. Dontchev} and \textit{M. Przemski}, Acta. Math. Hung. 71, No. 1-2, 109-120 (1996; Zbl 0852.54012)] or \(\gamma\)-open [\textit{A. A. El-Atik}, Master's Thesis, Faculty of Science, Tanta Univ., Egypt 1997] if \(A\subset\text{Cl(Int}(A))\cup\text{Int(Cl}(A))\). In this paper the authors introduce and study \(\gamma\)-continuous multifunctions as a generalization of quasicontinuous multifunctions due to \textit{V. Popa} [Rev. Roum. Math. Pures Appl. 30, 539-546 (1985; Zbl 0594.54018)] and precontinuous multifunctions due to \textit{V. Popa} [Zesz. Nauk. Wyższ. Szk. Pedagog. Bydgoszczy, Probl. Math. 10, 9-26 (1990; Zbl 0707.54014)]. A multifunction \(F:(X,\tau)\to(Y,\sigma)\) is said to be (a) upper \(\gamma\)-continuous at a point \(x\in X\) if for each open set \(V\) of \(Y\) such that \(F(x) \subset V\), there exists an \(\gamma\)-open set \(U\) of \(Y\) containing \(x\) such that \(F(U)\subset V\); (b) lower \(\gamma\)-continuous at a point \(x\in X\) if for each open set \(V\) of \(Y\) such that \(F(x)\cap V\neq \emptyset\), there exists a \(\gamma\)-open set \(U\) containing \(x\) such that \(F(u)\cap V\neq\emptyset\) for every \(u\in U\). Some characterizations and several properties concerning upper/lower \(\gamma\)-continuous multifunctions are obtained. The relationships between upper/lower \(\gamma\)-continuous multifunctions and some known concepts are also discussed.
