The authors introduce the class of \(p\)-semi-integral multilinear mappings as a natural generalization of absolutely \(p\)-summing operators and they give a very useful characterization of these mappings. They compare the ideal of \(p\)-semi-integral multilinear mappings with other generalizations like \(p\)-dominated, fully \(p\)-summing, and strongly \(p\)-summing multilinear mappings. Various examples show that the inclusions are strict in general. As an application of their results, together with a counterexample of G.\,Botelho, the authors give an alternative answer to a question of \textit{V.\,Dimant} posed in [J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 278, No.\,1, 182--193 (2003; Zbl 1043.47018)]: ``Is every strongly \(p\)-summing \(n\)-linear mapping weakly compact?''
