    Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be Banach spaces. The Banach space of all continuous \(m\)-homogeneous polynomials from \(X\) into \(Y\) is denoted by \({\mathcal P}(^m X;Y)\), whereas \({\mathcal P}_{as(q;1)}(^m X;Y)\) denotes the space of all absolutely \((q;1)\)-summing polynomials. If \((x_n)\) is a normalized unconditional Schauder basis, define \(\mu_{X,(x_n)}=\inf \{ t:(a_j)\in \ell_t\) whenever \(x=\sum_{j=1}^{\infty} a_j x_j \in X \}\). In this paper, the authors obtain upper estimates for \(\mu_{X,(x_n)}\), improving results due to the second author. Theorem.\ Let \(X\) be a Banach space with a normalized unconditional basis \((x_n)\) and\break \({\mathcal P}_{as(q;1)}(^m X;Y)={\mathcal P}(^m X;Y)\). Then \(\mu_{X,(x_n)} \leq mq\) if \(q<1\) and \(\dim Y <\infty\) or \(q<\cot Y:=\inf \{ q;Y\) has cotype \(q\}\) and \(\dim Y=\infty\). Corollary.\ Let \(X\) be as in the theorem above and \(\dim Y=\infty\). If \(q<\cot Y\) and \(\mu_{X,(x_n)}>q\), then \({\mathcal L}_{as(q;1)}(X;Y) \not= {\mathcal L} (X;Y)\). Some illustrative examples and applications to \(\ell_p\)-spaces are given.
