The author gives a characterization of Banach coordinate spaces (BK- spaces) which contain a subspace isomorphic to \(sc_ 0(\Delta)\) in terms of matrix maps and a sufficient condition for a matrix map from \(s\ell_ \infty(\Delta)\) into a BK-space to be a compact operator. Here \(s\ell_ \infty(\Delta)= \{x= (x_ k)^ \infty_{k=1}\in w: \Delta x= (x_ k- x_{k+1})\in \ell_ \infty\), \(x_ 1= 0\}\) and \(sc_ 0(\Delta)\) is defined similarly.
