The authors study some matter infinitesimal collineations \(\xi\) in General Relativity, defined by \({\mathcal L}_\xi G_{ab}=0\), where \(G_{ab}= R_{ab} -{R\over 2}g_{ab}\) is the Einstein tensor field. They consider Kantowski-Sachs, Bianchi types I and III spacetimes according to their degenerate and non-degenerate energy-momentum tensor. When the energy-momentum is degenerate, it is shown that the matter collineations are similar to the Ricci collineations with different constraint equations. In this case the authors obtain some cosmological models. One interesting fact is that there is a case where the energy-momentum is degenerate but the group of matter collineations is finite dimensional. When the energy-momentum is non-degenerate, the group of matter collineations is always finite dimensional.
