A Newton polygon \(NP(f)\) of a non-zero Laurent series \(f(T) = \sum^\infty_{i = n} a_iT^i\), where \(a_i\) are elements of a valued field \((F,v)\) \((v : F \to \mathbb{R} \bigcup \{\infty\})\), is the boundary of the convex hull of \(\bigcup^\infty_{i = n} L_i\), where \(L_i = \{(i,y) : y \geq v(a_i)\}\) is the vertical half-line in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) (for \(a_i \neq 0)\). Let \(S(f)\) be the supremum of all the slopes \(f^*(s)\) of the segments which appear in \(NP(f)\). The author then describes the segments of \(NP(fg)\) by using segments of \(NP(f)\) and \(NP(g)\). For example, he proves that segments of \(NP(fg)\) of slope \(< S(f)(\leq S(g))\) are always given by ``glueing together'' the segments of slope \(< S(f)\) contained in \(NP(f)\) and \(NP(g)\) (theorem 1, part (i)).
