The author shows that any Banach space X can be so renormed that X then has only trivial isometries. This is an extension of the result of \textit{S. Bellenot} [Isr. J. Math. 56, 89-96 (1986; Zbl 0619.46012)] which is in turn an extension of the result of \textit{W. J. Davis} [Rev. Roum. Math. Pures Appl. 16, 1051-1054 (1971; Zbl 0222.46016)].
