The system of coupled second-order semilinear evolution equations \[ \left\{\begin{aligned}& u''(t)+ A_1u(t)+\alpha u(t)-\int_0^tg(t-s)A_1u(s)\, ds + B_2v(t) = f(u(t)),\\ &v''(t) + A_2v(t)+ B_1u(t) = 0 \end{aligned}\right. \] with initial data \[ u(0) = u_0,\,\, v(0) = v_0, \,\, u'(0) = u_1, \,\, v'(0) = v_1 \] is considered, where \(A_1, A_2\) are positive self-adjoint linear operators in a Hilbert space \(H,\) \(g: [0,\infty)\to [0,\infty)\) (a locally absolutely continuous function) denotes the memory kernel, \(B_i , i = 1, 2,\) are linear coupling operators in \(H,\) and \(f : [D(A_1^{\frac{1}{2}})]\to H\) represents external forces. A global existence and uniqueness result is proved, and the uniform decay of the solutions is studied, including exponential and polynomial decay. Two examples illustrating the applicability of the obtained abstract results concerning Timoshenko and coupled Petrovsky systems are presented.
