The authors prove that the completely positive (CP) rank of a \(5\times 5\) completely positive matrix which has at least one zero entry is at most 6. This supports a conjecture of \textit{J. H Drew}, \textit{C. R. Johnson}, and \textit{R. Loewy} [Linear Multilinear Algebra 37, No. 4, 303-310 (1994; Zbl 0815.15019)] for matrices of arbitrary size (and without the assumption on zero entries).
