The paper deals with the existence of weak solutions of boundary value problems for higher-order degenerated quasilinear elliptic equations in weighted Sobolev spaces. Some ``global'' assumptions of a preceding paper of the same authors [J. Differ. Equations 109, 325-347 (1994; Zbl 0847.35054)] are avoided. To this end, suitable function spaces are defined; various types of growth conditions on the coefficients of the differential operator and the boundary value problem for the differential operator under consideration as an operator equation are formulated. To solve the corresponding operator equation, the authors use degree theory.
