Shadow systems are often used to approximate reaction-diffusion systems when one of the diffusion rates is large. However, the results of the paper indicate that there are serious discrepancies between the dynamics of shadow systems and their original reaction-diffusion systems even as the fundamental aspects, global existence and finite-time blow-up, are concerned.
