The paper deals with the monotone method for the first order scalar equation \(u'(t)= f(t,u(t))\) with linear and nonlinear boundary conditions. Assuming the existence of a lower and an upper solutions the author proves the existence of solutions and the validity of the monotone method. Also, in the case of linear boundary conditions eight new concepts of lower and upper solutions are introduced.
