Let \(M_ n (n\geq 3)\) be a closed minimal hypersurface in the unit sphere \(S^{n+1}(1)\) with constant scalar curvature. Denote by \(S\) the square of the length of the second fundamental form. \textit{C. K. Peng} and \textit{C. L. Terng} [Ann. Math. Stud. 103, 177-198 (1983; Zbl 0534.53048)] proved that if \(S>n\), then \(S>n+C(n)\), where \(C(n)>1/12n\) is a positive constant. In the present paper the authors obtain a sharper result. Theorem. Let \(M^ n (n\geq 3)\) be a closed minimal hypersurface in \(S^{n+1}(1)\) with constant scalar curvature. If \(S>n\), then there is a constant \(C>0\) independent of \(n\) such that \(S>n+Cn\) (in addition, \(C>1/15\)).
