Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) of medium/large scale problems requires costly (time-consuming) computations. However, if applied in an automatic way, it cannot guarantee an aceptable solution. Sources of low efficiency may be attributed to the nested architecture of the RBDO process, involving solution of complicated subproblems of structural analysis, design sensitivity analysis, reliability sensitivity analysis and optimization. Here the authors develop an integrated computational system POLSTAR-RBO enabling an user to control convergence, to restart from any iteration step, to add or to remove constraints, and to modify the status of variable/fixed design parameters and stochastic/deterministic parameters.
