Buckling of geometrically imperfect column on an elastic foundation is analyzed. The concept of ``modal buckling load'' is defined and used to determine which modes are the most significant in calculating the buckling load by Galerkin method. For reliability study, a random finite model is suggested to describe a random deflection.
