In the paper under review the author is concerned with the following problem: Can one embed birationally a surface \(S\) in \(\mathbb{P}^3\) as a normal hypersurface? If so then find the lower bound of the degree of the image. The case considered is the one in which \(S\) is an Enriques surface over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(\neq\) 2. It is already known that every Enriques surface is birationally equivalent to a (non-normal) sextic surface in \(\mathbb{P}^3\). \textit{G. Castelnuovo} [Mem. Soc. Ital. Sci., Ser. III 10, 103-123 (1896; JFM 27.0523.01)] and \textit{E. Stagnaro} [in: Algebraic geometry -- open problems, Proc. Conf., Ravello 1982, Lect. Notes Math. 997, 400-403 (1983; Zbl 0511.14020)] found normal quintic surfaces which are birationally equivalent to Enriques surfaces. In the present paper the author shows that Enriques surfaces whose elliptic fibrations satisfy certain conditions are birationally equivalent to normal quintic surfaces in \(\mathbb{P}^3\). Moreover it is also proved that the generic Enriques surfaces, as well as all the examples which are known to the author satisfy the above conditions.
