    Consider the system of equations for a vector valued function \(u\), \[ \partial_{x_ i} F_ j^ i (t,x,u,Du)= w_ j(t,x,u,Du) \quad \text{in } [0,T[\times \Omega, \] \[ \nu_ i F_ j^ i (t,x,u,Du)= g_ j(t,x,u,Du) \text{ in } [0,T[\times \partial\Omega, \quad u(x_ 0=0)=u_ 0, \;\partial_{x_ 0} u(x_ 0=0)= u_ 1 \text{ in }\Omega, \] where the summation convention is used, \(0\leq i\leq n\), \(1\leq j\leq N\), \(x_ 0\) is the time variable and \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^ n\). Assuming natural structure conditions, which assure the hyperbolicity of the equations, as well as regularity conditions, the local solution is constructed using a Picard type iteration and energy estimates. It is shown that the solution depends continuously on the initial values, on \(F\), \(w\) and on \(g\). A characterization of a possible blow up is given. It is shown that similar results hold for the system \[ F_ j(t,x,u,Du,D^ 2 u)=0 \quad \text{in } [0,T[ \times\Omega, \] \[ u=0\quad\text{ in } [0,T[\times \partial\Omega\qquad u(x_ 0=0)=u_ 0, \quad \partial_{x_ 0} u(x_ 0=0)= u_ 1, \quad \text{in } \Omega. \] {}.
