Let \(A\) be a graded algebra of finite type over a field \(k\). \textit{D. J. Anick} conjectured that if \(A\) grows at most polynomially and has finite global dimension, then \(A\) is linearly isomorphic to a graded polynomial algebra [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 291, 291-310 (1985; Zbl 0575.16002)]. The authors construct a counter-example \(A\) which is a cocommutative graded Hopf algebra, \(k\) having odd characteristic. On the other hand, for \(A\) any cocommutative graded Hopf algebra, they prove the conjecture for \(k\) of characteristic zero or two. They propose a companion conjecture for \(A\) a graded algebra of finite type, namely that if \(A\) grows at most polynomially and has finite global dimension \(m\), then \(\dim \text{Ext}^ q_ A(k,k) \leq \left( \begin{smallmatrix} m\\q\end{smallmatrix} \right)\) for all \(0 \leq q \leq m\). They prove this companion conjecture when \(A\) is the universal enveloping algebra of a graded Lie algebra.
