    The paper deals with the convergence of finite elements that could be useful when discretizing nonlinear incompressible fluid models. The authors construct a projection operator \(P_{h}\in L\left( H_{0}^{1}\left( \Omega \right) ^{d};\;X_{h}\right) ,\) for \(d=2\) or \(3\), which satisfies \[ \forall w\in H_{0}^{1}\left( \Omega \right) ^{d}\;\;\text{and}\;\;\forall q_{h}\in M_{h}\;\;\left[ q_{h},\;div\left( P_{h}\left( w\right) -w\right) \right] _{\Omega}=0 \] \[ \forall v\in W^{s,p}\left( \Omega \right) ^{d}\;\;\text{and }\forall T\in \tau _{h}\;\;\;\left| P_{h}\left( v\right) -v\right| _{W^{m,q}\left( T\right) }\leq C_{1}h_{T}^{s-m+d\left( \frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{p}\right) }\left| v\right| _{W^{s,p}\left( \Delta _{T}\right)} \] for all real numbers \(s,\;p,\;q,\; 1\leq s\leq k+1,\;\;1\leq p,q\leq \infty \) and integer \(m=0\) or \(1\) such that \(W^{s,p}\left( \Omega \right) \subset W^{m,q}\left( \Omega \right) .\) Here \(\Delta _{T}\) is a suitable macro-element containing \(T\) and the semi-norm \(\left[ f,g\right] _{\Omega }=\sum\limits_{T\in \tau _{h}}\int_{T}fgdx\) is used for piecewise functions.
