The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of \(L^1\)-connections between equilibria of a semilinear parabolic equation. An \(L^1\)-connection from an equilibrium \(\varphi^-\) to another one \(\varphi^+\) is a function \(u(\cdot,t)\) which is a classical solution in \((-\infty,T)\) for some real \(T\) and blows up at \(t=T\) but it continues to exist in \(L^1\) for \(t\in[T,+\infty)\) and satisfies \(u(\cdot,t)\to \varphi^\pm\) as \(t\to\pm\infty.\)
