The article is devoted to the classical problem of constructing efficient and higher order convergence iterative algorithms for solving equations (see \textit{J. F. Traub} [Iterative methods for the solution of equations. Cliffs: Prentice-Hall, Inc (1964; Zbl 0121.11204)]). The main task is to propose a general scheme that can be applied to any optimal iteration function of order eight whose first substep uses Newton's method to further develop new optimal scheme of order sixteen (see, Theorem 2.1). The efficiency index is equal to \(EI=1.7411\dots\), which is better than the classical Newton's method \(EI=1.414\dots\). The proposed algorithm is optimal in the sense of Kung-Traub's hypothesis. Numerical experiments are presented to show the performance of the method.
