The authors investigate function spaces whose elements are defined on a domain \(\Omega\subset X= X(d,\,u)\), with \(d\) a quasi-metric and \(\mu\) a nonnegative measure. These spaces are denoted by \(L^{p(x)}_\rho(\Omega)\), with \(p(x)\) measurable on \(\Omega\), and such that \(1<\min p(x)\leq \text{supp}(x)< \infty\), while \(\rho\) is a weight function. These spaces are generalized Lebesgue spaces, with variable index \(p(x)\). Criteria of boundedness are established in \(L^{p(\cdot)}_\rho(\Omega)\), under adequate conditions on \(p\) and \(\rho\). Extrapolation results are obtained for such spaces, and integral inequalities are also given. Certain results are valid for unbounded domains. Applications are concerned with classical operators of harmonic analysis, multipliers of trigonometric Fourier series, multidimensional singular operators and a good deal of integral inequalities similar to those of classical type. The list of references contains 76 items. The authors are steady contributors to this field. A recent related paper has been inserted in [Proc. A. Razmadze Math. Inst. 149, 122--125 (2009; Zbl 1177.42012)], authored by the first author and \textit{A. Meskhi}.
