The paper considers a continuous-time BMAP/G/1 queue with multiple vacations, and then apply it to IEEE 802.16E sleep mode. When queue becomes empty (exhaustive service) the server takes vacation, and repeats it if finds queue empty again upon return. The vacation length distribution is general and moreover depends on the number of preceding vacations. By this reason, the model is called dependent multiple vacation model. Using matrix analytical approach the authors deduce expressions for the vector generating function of the stationary queue size and its mean. Moreover, new formulas for Laplace-Stieltjes transforms of the stationary virtual waiting time and for first two moments are given in case of FIFO discipline. Some numerical examples are included which illustrate in particular, dependence between mean packet delay or mean power savings and sleep interval steps and load, resp.
