It is proved that the equation \(x^ 4-kx^ 2y^ 2-y^ 4=1\), where \(k\) is a positive integer, does not have any solutions in positive integers \(x\) and \(y\) except for the trivial cases where \(k\) is a square and \(x=1\) or \(y=1\).
