The multiplication group of a loop is generated by the left and right translations; compare [\textit{P. T. Nagy} and \textit{K. Strambach}, Loops in group theory and Lie theory. Berlin: de Gruyter (2002; Zbl 1050.22001)]. The author gives a survey on Lie groups that are multiplication groups of 3-dimensional topological loops. The group \(\mathrm{SL}_4 \mathbb R\) arises from a topological loop on the 3-sphere. The groups \(\mathrm{PSL}_2 \mathbb C\), \(\mathrm{SL}_3 \mathbb R\) and \(\mathrm{PSU}_3 ({\mathbb C}, 1)\) are not multiplication groups of any connected topological loop.
