The genericity conditions for a closed space curve, introduced by the author and \textit{M. C. Romero Fuster} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 112, No. 3, 519-526 (1992; Zbl 0783.53003) below], are extended suitably in order to get a residual class of closed curves for which the singularities of the tangent developable exhibit a simple behaviour. A complete study of these singularities is presented in this paper. The considerations are extended to the projective compactification of the developable in the generic case. It is shown that the NC condition of \textit{M. H. Freedman} [Topology 19, 1-8 (1980; Zbl 0438.53001)] is satisfied in this case. Then Freedman's results are used to show that if a generic curve has no torsion zero points, the number of triple points of the tangent developable must be even.
