Let W be a wedge in an neighbourhood U of O in \({\mathbb{C}}^ p\), whose edge M is a totally real manifold of class \(C^ 2\) and maximal dimension p. The authors' main theorem states that if f: \(\bar W\to {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) is continuous, holomorphic on W, and (i) f is flat at 0, (ii) \(f(U\cap M)\subset M'\) is totally real of class \(C^ 2\), then f vanishes identically in the connected component of O in \(\bar W.\) Part of the proof involves a regularity result for f on M under condition (ii), which sharpens an earlier result of \textit{B. Coupet} [Thesis, Univ. de Provence (1987)] and \textit{S. I. Pinchuk} and \textit{S. V. Khasanov} [Math. USSR, Sb. 62, No.2, 541-550 (1989); translation from Mat. Sb., Nov. Ser. 134 (176), No.4(12), 546-555 (1987; Zbl 0663.32006)]. The uniqueness of continuation is obtained by using classical Carleman estimates for elliptic inequalities and a suitable construction of analytic discs.
