Two competing species in a bounded smooth domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^2\) are considered, allowing for self- and cross-diffusion. The system is rewritten as an abstract quasilinear Cauchy problem, for which the unique local solution exists by standard arguments. The core of the paper seems to be the Section 3 where, under the key assumption (self-diffusion dominates the cross-diffusion), a number of a apriori estimates are derived, using various types of test functions. This results into theorems about global existence, regularity and dissipativity of solutions. The existence of an exponential attractor is proved by the means of certain abstract theorem.
