For any \(k\geq 4\) the clone lattice \({\mathcal L}_k\) on a \(k\)-element set contains any finite lattice as a sublattice. Hence, \({\mathcal L}_k\) does not satisfy any nontrivial lattice identity or quasi-identity. The author exhibits two mutually dual conditions on infinitely many variables that are satisfied by \({\mathcal L}_k\) for any \(k\geq 2\). These conditions are as follows: Let \(a_1, a_2,\dots \) be elements of \(L\) such that \(a_i\wedge a_j = a_s \wedge a_t\) for any integers \(i,j,s,t\), \(i\neq j\), \(s\neq t\). Then \(a_0 = \bigwedge \{ a_0 \vee a_i\); \(i=0,1,\dots \}\). The second condition is the dual one. As a corollary it follows that the lattice \(M_{\omega }\) is isomorphic to no sublattice of \({\mathcal L}_k\), \(k\geq 2\).
