A coupled system consisting of a linear parabolic integrodifferential equation and a nonlinear ordinary differential equation is described. The well-posedness of the initial value problem and the existence and stability of nontrivial equilibrium solutions are studied (using monotone iteration techniques, amongst other things). The system is of interest as a model of the dynamics of an epidemic in which one of two species can diffuse.
