A diffeomorphism \(f:M\to M\) is \(C^1\) robustly transitive if there is a neighbourhood \(\mathcal{U}(f)\subset \mathrm{Diff}^1(M)\) such that any \(g\in\mathcal{U}\) is transitive. The authors give new examples of robustly transitive diffeomorphisms and consider explicitly the familly of diffeomorphisms of skew-products \(f_N:\mathbb{T}^2\times\mathbb{T}^2\to\mathbb{T}^2\times\mathbb{T}^2\) given by \(f_N(x,y,z,w)=(s_N(x,y)+P_x\circ A^N(z,w),A^{2N}(z,w))\), where \(N>0\), \(s_N(x,y)=(2N\sin(x)+2x-y, x)\) is the standard map, \(A\in \mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})\) is a hyperbolic matrix and \(P_x(x,y)=(x,0)\) is the projection onto the first coordinate. This family was already considered in [\textit{P. Berger} and \textit{P. D. Carrasco}, Commun. Math. Phys. 329, No. 1, 239--262 (2014; Zbl 1350.37032)] in the context of ergodic theory. The authors prove that for large \(N\) the maps \(f_N\) are \(C^1\) robustly transitive. The main idea is that for large \(N\) there exists a large open set with hyperbolic behaviour which mixes any two open sets by iteration.
