The authors discuss a number of nonlinear theories of elasticity including: second order theory; small-strain, moderate-rotation theory; and small-rotation, moderate-strain theory. A systematic development of physically nonlinear elasticity is given. Stress-strain relations for anisotropic physically nonlinear materials are derived. The paper is carefully written. It will probably be of use to both theoreticians and practicioners in nonlinear elasticity.
